Batman, Supes, Green Lantern and WW assemble, but it’s not a Justice League movie. Gandalf meets Dumbledore, but it’s no wizard buddy movie. It’s an animation movie  dubbed after the most commercial toy ever made… It’s The LEGO Movie.

The LEGO Movie appears with unusual sense of humor—involving ridiculous set piece, word-play that devices palindromes and rhymes. Presented by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, The LEGO Movie brings all infamous LEGO figures (that I know less). Well, I can still feel the humor even I never know any of them before.

When the wizard Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman) fails to protect a secret weapon “Kragle” from Lord Business (Will Ferrell), he warns the lord with a prophecy that a savior called the “Special” will come and find Piece of Resistance to stop Kragle. Our ordinary man, Emmet Brickowski (Chris Pratt), turns out become our special. He comes across many characters, like Wyldstyles a.k.a Lucy (Elizabeth Banks) and Batman (Will Arnett), and goes to places like “Middle-Zealand”, “Old West”, and “Cloud Cuckoo Land” only to stop Lord Business’ evil desire.

The LEGO Movie is a quirky blend of homage to pop culture, metaphor of playing god, and word-play that becomes really funny eventually. Often, the movie spoofs pioneering movie franchise in pop culture like The Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter, The Dark Knight Trilogy, and even Star Wars. The laughter also comes along the dialogues (things like “See you later, Alligator!” and “After a while, Crocodile!”). The final act of this movie moves further into a reference of “playing god” depicted in live-action; as it brings the audience to a “Jodorowsky” level, but it still tickles.

Chris Miller and Phil Lord build the LEGO world meticulously. The combination of CGI and stop-motion adorns the screen with all eye-candies; while the rest looks so colourful and warm. Believe it or not, The LEGO Movie is not just making me impressed by the picture there–but it also makes me want to play this brick-building toy.

I love every detail of the movie… when there are dialogues, something weird always happens in the background. All casts behind the pitch are also cool–Liam Neeson, man! The blend of all those makes it a real LEGO masterpiece.
