09. The ‘Tell Me If You Wanna Go Home’ Rooftop Jam – Begin Again

Perhaps ‘Lost Star’ is the single to represent Begin Again in Oscar, but the climax of the movie doesn’t even sing that song. It’s in the rooftop, Dan (Ruffalo) invites his wife and daughter to come over while his band live-records the titular song. Ruffalo’s on the guitar is a decent thing, but when Hailee Steinfeld steals the stage with her solo performance, you know Begin Again is on its top.

08. Baymax Bump Fist – Big Hero 6

Finished uploading some martial art movements to Baymax, Hiro teached the droid to do a cute, buddy fist-bump. What he does is okay, but how Baymax does is just a completely hilarious screen-stealer. *BUMP* Fa la la la la…

07. The End-credit Scene – 22 Jump Street

22 Jump Street is an okay sequel to a surprise hit 21 Jump Street. It’s loud and sarcastic, but the most badass spoof is, obviously, the credit scene where Tatum and Hill appears again and again to mock sequels. Then it comes 23 Jump Street, the 24, 25, and more. It’s beyond ridiculous, it’s a promise to keep.

06. The Tesseract – Interstellar

In Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, in which science takes control of people’s amazement; there’s a magnificent scene that amuses me. Following Cooper’s (McConaughey) sacrifice by letting himself absorbed by the black hole, everyone’s just got as surprised as him. He’s trapped in a multi-dimensional vault in which spatial and temporal dimensions blend in with nowhere left to go and no time to last. Once we know in the end that this is not a curse, but a blessing instead; we just realize how amazing this scene is.

05. Prison Riot – The Raid 2

The Raid 2 escalates the franchise into a higher level with a more complicated narratives and bigger action set-pieces. I liked the final showdown good, but it always reminds me to the first Raid; I also like the car-chase scene, which combines martial arts and fast-and-furious car stunts. However, the prison riot is a way too atrocious to miss as one of the greatest action scene in 2014. With Rama a.k.a Yuda (Iko Uwais), the mud, the rain, tons of muscle and progressive Indonesian martial arts on screen, it’s never been too much.

04. The Act of Creation – Noah

Inside the Ark during the Great Flood, Noah (Russel Crowe) gathers his family. In the midst of darkness, he begins to tell the story of creation (which opens the book of Genesis, the same book his story is originated). Darren Aronofsky takes this old tale into a different stage—the act of creation is presented through an astonishing time-lapse work, trying to bridge the traditional theory with evolution theory. The whole scene is a real eye-candy as well as a faith-breaker.

03. The Alien’s Lair – Under the Skin

The female Alien lures her victims to an abandoned house. She walks before the victims, undresses herself piece to piece, while the victims do the same. The room goes pitch dark along Mica Levi’s bizarre scoring and the victims start drowning into a liquid floor while the alien still walks in a solid floor. What’s really going on there? Does the alien prey on the victim? Or does she abduct them? It’s left unanswered and the scene is left as enigmatic as possible. It’s a real masterpiece in a scene, Jon Glazer nailed it.

02. The Final Song – Whiplash

How come we don’t sympathize with this young drummer—Andrew? He had given his best, even risked his life to get a chance to be the first drummer in Fletcher’s ensemble… but Fletcher persisted. In the final scene, Fletcher set Andrew on a trap, but Andrew had risen with an exhilarating vengeance with his sets of drum.

01. Quicksilver Time – X-Man: Days of Future Past

It’s always difficult to describe this scene; it’s hilarious, it’s cool, it’s impressive, it’s beautifully crafted as a redefinition of bullet time from The Matrix. Peter a.k.a Quicksilver helped Xavier team to release Erik a.k.a Magneto from the prison using his hyper-speed ability to fool the guards. Instead of exhibiting this ability in a real-time scene, the filmmakers made it in a beautiful slo-mo in which only Quicksilver acts normally. With a scene this magnificent, Quicksilver has made his debut on big screen with glory; will he do it again in the Avengers, on the other universe?
