Thursday Movie Picks #41: Halloween Edition – Villainous Children

Read Time:2 Minute, 3 Second

Here comes Thursday Movie Picks hosted by Wandering through the Shelves, still in the month of October—the month of Halloween. Therefore, Halloween Edition comes to its second week with a very disquieting theme as suggested by Wendell, Villainous Children.

Villainous children are the worst kind of villain, IMO. Can you imagine those innocent faces turn into sinister grin, which is ready to devour you alive. Other thing is, this kind of villain is tricky. Question is: do you have heart to fight back if your enemy’s little fellas? The answer is NO.

Below is my personal picks.

01. Children of the Corn (1984)

What will you do if you get trapped in a farmland, in which children cult has taken over and decided that people over 18 must be killed? There’s no way to hide. Even worse, those children would do anything to make sure adults get real nightmare. Stephen King really knows every face of fears when writing this, I swear.

02. The Good Son (1993)

When you’re a fan of Macaulay Culkin from Home Alone and then you watch this—like when you’re a kid, perhaps you’ll get traumatized just like me. Culkin portrays Henry, who lives with her aunt and starts making trouble there, including terrorizing his cousin (portrayed by little Elijah Wood). Not only does it portray Culkin as a violent kid, it doesn’t really show sympathy to his character… and the finale is never a thing I expected. It’s a terrible characterization, but it gives you real creep anytime you see Culkin.

03. The Omen (1974)

A kid with demonic power that can cause death to anyone who annoys him. Isn’t it clear why The Omen is a straight-forward pick for this theme?

Honorable mentions:

01. We Need to Talk about Kevin (2011)

Kevin Khatchadourian is quirky but there’s nothing to worry about until he grabs a bow and arrows.

02. Hansel and Gretel (2007)

Question is: will you be adopting these cute Korean kids? I bet you do, until you realize they live in the middle of a forest and only eats delicatessen.

03. Game of Thrones (series, 2011 – Now)

“All hail His Grace, Joffrey of Houses Baratheon and Lannister, First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm.”

So, those are my picks—ranged from horror to psychological thriller to a real villain. Share your thoughts on comment section, please.

Great choices, the horror genre really knows how to make kids very creepy.

True that! They never stop finding things to scare people.

In horror movies there are two types of kids; the angelic, frightened kids and the devils spawn.

Can’t agree more, but there are some kids in between as well.

Sorry to be ‘that guy’ but The Omen is 1976.

Anyway good picks. I like your honourable pick We Need to Talk About Kevin, in my mind the kid was a creepy from the start. Do you remember how he manipulated his mum? Urg.Kids…

Oops. My bad. Gonna edit it soon đŸ™‚
Since he was a kid, Kevin is always a menace… And yeah, he manipulated his mum ‘that way’. Kids…

Yes! These are all fantastic picks. I still can’t believe they remade The Omen and failed so badly at it. One of my favorite horror movies for sure.

Thanks! I never watch the remake version. I know it’ll be scary, but The Omen is only one everyone knows đŸ™‚

LOL at the inclusion of Joffrey! I could watch that clip of Tyrion slapping him silly on a loop for all eternity and NEVER get bored.

Of course he’s a must in this list! It was the best hit in the show… even harder than the poison he drank. Lol.

Oh I thought of The Omen right away. I mean the child of satan obviously is gonna wreck havoc on humanity, ahah.

True that, Ruth. Right away! Can anybody neglect a child of satan? Well, if that means you will die ridiculously, then you better can’t. Lol.

Nice picks, of them all The Omen is the one I like the best by far. I liked the King story of Children of the Corn but didn’t care for the film and Culkin was such a blank in the lead of Good Son he hurt the film. Haven’t seen We Need to Talk About Kevin nor Hansel and Gretel but that little bastard in Game of Thrones surely belongs here.

Glad to know you like The Omen, too. It’s not only the best, but the most cult. Children of the Corn is a big franchise, so it’s possible not to give attention to it. Meanwhile, the Good Son is, indeed, different, but it’s a traumatizing performance.
Thanks for mentioning our honorable mentions as well đŸ™‚

I’ve come to find that apparently I don’t watch enough ‘creepy kid movies’.

Why is that so, Andrew? Perhaps it might be the scariest.

I thought I would see The Omen and the Exorcist everywhere today but I say the Exorcist on 1 site and now The Omen here-very creepy film. Have not seen Children of the corn-reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode where the kids sends people to the cornfield. I have seen the Culkin film around

The Omen was my obvious choice for this! You should watch Children of the Corn if you have time, it’s creepy as hell.
