Sinekdoks is now on instagram (@sinekdoks) posting short reviews with only 3-5 sentences in a review (summarizing the final verdict only). With currently little followers, I decided to post the short reviews here with the link to the instagram posts. So, sinekdoks presents you these 4 instagram reviews of enigmatic sci-fi gem, Coherence (2014); Dutch surreal-horror, Borgman (2014); beautiful modern-musical, Once (2006); and inventive monster-invasion thriller, Monsters (2010).

It’s a Schrödinger Cat manifestation in a lively living room drama with more entry and less exit. It embraces the solid scientific ground like Shane Carruth’s Primer and crafts it in a digestible story.
Written & Directed by: Alex van Warmerdam Starred by: Jan Bijvoet THREE out of FOUR stars Poisonous Dutch surreal, Borgman, is a bible-induced fairy tale juxtaposing toneless horror with cinematic imagery. It goes around with bizarre narrativesfrom mountain to sea; that brings more questions and less resolutions; that ends up in frustrations. Enjoyable, though. Set in Dublin with real musician, Once set up the new bar for modern musical. With lovely lyrical songs out of lo-fi cinema, this film shows the world that music and story can walk hand in hand without overlapping each other.
Once you think it’s lovely as you sing all the catchy Irish tunes, you know how heartbreaking Once is. It’s falling slowly—with Hansard and Irglova natural charm—and finally hitting all the right tones at once.
Monsters (2010): Gareth Edwards’ pre-Godzilla monster invasion flick is a fresh meat to the genre. Laying the suspense upon main characters’ interactions with each other is the core; meanwhile, stellar performance from McNairy and his eventual wife is such an genre gem.
