A Season with: MOLA Living Live

Read Time:3 Minute, 31 Second

Mola TV presents a world-class inspiration by world-class celebrities in an interactive, long-distance talk show format. Mola Living Live seeks to find inspirations from world’s renowned masters in showbiz and other fields, including sport. “Inspired minds, inspiring discussion” is the tagline to unravel the story behind some of the finest and most fruitful figures, detailing moments from their journey with all the ups and downs, and giving audiences nutritious food for thoughts.

Each episode presents a unique and thoughtful sharing session with one of the industry’s finest names. The session digs out personal stories from actress, Sharon Stone, to former boxer, Mike Tyson, as well as Hollywood’s auteur, like Spike Lee, Darren Aronofsky, and Luc Besson. In the most recent episode (aired on 16 December 2020), Living Live interviewed veteran actor, Robert De Niro, with his inspiring stories of working with Martin Scorsese among other topics. The host roster is as awe-inspiring as the guest stars. From seasoned Indonesian actor, Reza Rahadian; cutting-edge director, Timo Tjahjanto, to Indonesia’s most famous figures including former diplomats, the hosts add depth and warmth to the inspiring discussion effortlessly.

In the episode featuring Besson, Indonesian filmmakers, Mirwan Suwarso (Golden Goal) and Rayya Makarim (Pasir Berbisik, 27 Steps of May) dig out from the mastermind himself how his French-produced films end up being cult hits in Hollywood. People would eventually know him for femme-fatale-driven movies like La Femme Nikita, Leon: The Professional or Lucy. Yet, there’s an intriguing story in the start of his career. As Besson claims, nobody in French film industry helped him to kick-start his career, but he’s enlisted assistance from 4 other people (none had film background), from a travel agent to an insurance agent.

In Aronofsky’s episode, Tjahjanto (May the Devil Take You, The Night Comes for Us) interviews Black Swan’s director and coaxes him to spill the secret to his idealism working in a place of compromise like Hollywood. For the director, his wildly exhilarating ideas are not unfamiliar with rejections and disbeliefs; from there, he’s learning that he got to find as much “no” from other people before he can find a “yes” that works both way. From this episode, we learn how Aronofsky’s persistence represents in his works that mainly tackle grim and wicked issues.

During an episode with De Niro, Rahadian who looks up to the Taxi Driver actor as an inspiration teams up with former Indonesian diplomat, Dino Patti Djalal, whose family is a fan of the actor as well. One of the most intriguing parts in the interview is the correlation between De Niro and Scorsese, who has been collaborating together in 9 films so far, with another film, Killers of the Flower Moon, coming up next. The actor revealed that if he could, he would have been working more with the director as they developed mutual respects to each other.

Rahadian and Patti Djalal also appear on another episode interviewing Shelton Jackson “Spike” Lee with his quintessential Black filmography. In an episode with veteran actress, Stone, Rahadian teams up with Makarim. The other episode when Susi Pudjiastuti interviewed Tyson is nothing less inspiring and it’s completely warm.
