Welcome back to Thursday Movie Picks by Wandering through the Shelves! According to the theme of the week, we pick and share three to five movies are with the reason. Should anyone be interested in joining in, feel free to visit the main page here. This week's theme is Desert. For this theme, I'll go with popular choices and big names. Desert has always been an immense setting for films --- whether to mark wastelands, post-apocalyptic, expedition, wars, nature powers... and romance. So, here's my picks! (more…)

Thursday Movie Pick #18: Doppelgänger

Welcome back to Thursday Movie Picks by Wandering through the Shelves! Last week I was absent, but this week I'm back alive and kickin'. According to the theme of the week, three to five movies are picked and shared with the reason. Should anyone be interested in joining in, feel free to visit the main page here. Our theme for this week is: Doppelgänger. Such a theme, isn't it? Lucky I've found recent films from my repertoire in 2014 to actually eligible to get picked this week. I picked three films about doppelgänger and all of them are mind-blowing at best, cringe-worthy at worst. So, here's my picks! (more…)

Thursday Movie Pick #16: Disappearance

Thursday Movie Picks by Wandering through the Shelves is here again. According to the theme of the week, three to five movies are picked and shared with the reason. Should anyone be interested in joining in, feel free to visit the main page here. Our theme for this week is: Disappearance. I don't have lots of repertoire for this theme, therefore, I don't make theme within theme. I only share 3 films about people gone missing for whatever reasons, which really get my nerve. So, here are my picks! (more…)

Thursday Movie Pick #15: Rivalry

Thursday Movie Picks by Wandering through the Shelves returns. According to the theme of the week, three to five movies are picked and shared with the reason. Should anyone be interested in joining in, feel free to visit the main page here. As for this week, our theme is Rivalry, which is kinda easy for me. I know dozens of movies about rivalry, but only given 3-5 movies at max to pick; therefore, I add an additional theme within theme to make it easier (or more challenging). And, the theme within the theme for this week is: Sibling Rivalry. Why? Because I recently watched Ryan Murphy's latest show, FEUD: Bette and Joan, about rivalry between Oscar-winning actresses, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford; and, that rivalry escalated during the production of a film about sibling rivalry, which kind...

Thursday Movie Pick #14: Cars/Racing

Thursday Movie Picks by Wandering through the Shelves returns. According to the theme of the week, three to five movies are picked and shared with the reason. Should anyone be interested in joining in, feel free to visit the main page here. The theme for this week is: cars or racing. I don't fancy racing films, though I like films like Rush, Senna or TT3D: Closer to the Edge; but, I have some fascinations with movies about badass guys with great, vintage cars. There's something about these guys that make us a real powerhouse, especially when they're in the favorite cars. So, here's my pick for 3 film about badass cars drivers along with the cars. (more…)

Thursday Movie Pick #12: The Underdogs

Thursday Movie Picks by Wandering through the Shelves returns. According to the theme of the week, three to five movies are picked and shared with the reason. Should anyone be interested in joining in, feel free to visit the main page here. This week's theme is: The Underdogs or from-zero-to-hero guys or comeback kids, you name it. I must admit that this theme mostly revolves around sports movies, but I'm glad that I found beyond that 'stereotype', too. So, here's my most favorite underdogs movies. (more…)

Thursday Movie Pick #11: Ancient World (3600 BC – 500 AD)

Thursday Movie Picks by Wandering through the Shelves returns. According to the theme of the week, three to five movies are picked and shared with the reason. Should anyone be interested in joining in, feel free to visit the main page here. This week's theme is: Ancient World – movies set around 3600 BC – 500 AD. Well, I suppose there will be many first-civilization movies around this Thursday. However, I’ve restricting myself to pick only three movies about ancient China. Why China? Because I grew up with wuxia and jiangshi movies, serials and comics. Selecting three movies that are eligible for that ‘period of time’ isn’t an easy task, since there are myriads of movies about ancient China but from different eras (the country itself has a long ‘movie-material’ history). However, this is m...

Thursday Movie Pick #10: Most Wanted Sequels

Thursday Movie Picks by Wandering through the Shelves is here again. I do apologize for skipping the gig for two consecutive weeks. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week, pick three to five movies and share the reason. Should anyone be interested in joining in, feel free to visit the main page here. For this week, the theme is: Remake/Sequels/Reboot you want to see, to which I pick sequel. The only reason is: you can always remake/reboot any film you think isn't as good as it should've been (say Fantastic Four or Eragon). However, it takes a real film that awe-struck you to decide to finally see a sequel made out of it. Therefore, I present you some films that I want to see it continued with sequel. (more…)

Thursday Movie Picks #6: Prodigy/Genius

Thursday Movie Picks by Wandering through the Shelves returns. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week, pick three to five movies and share the reason. Should anyone be interested in joining in, feel free to visit the main page here. This week's theme is: Prodigy or Genius. This kind-of-movie used to be one of my most favorites, when I was awe-struck by mind-blowing movies. For this theme, I personally pick movies about those genius who descends into trouble ironically caused by their brilliant minds. So, here's my picks of movies about prodigy/genius. (more…)

Thursday Movie Picks #5: Movies About Artists (Painters)

Welcome back to Thursday Movie Picks by Wandering through the Shelves! In case you’re interested, the rules are simple: based on the theme of the week, pick three to five movies and share the reason. Should anyone be interested in joining in, feel free to visit the main page here. This week's theme is: Movies about Artists (Painters). Here's my picks! (more…)

Thursday Movie Picks #2 – Fashion World

Welcome back to Thursday Movie Picks series hosted by Wandering through the Shelves! . The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week, pick three to five movies and share the reason. Should anyone be interested in joining in, feel free to visit the main page here. This week's theme is Fashion World. Same as Legal Thrillers last week, this theme isn't my favorite spot. The reason is similar: too many jargons and names (of people, of brand) I barely knew before. Yet, I can still manage to pick three films about Fashion World (that I watched and found a little liking in them). (more…)

Thursday Movie Picks #1 – Legal Thrillers

Welcome back to Thursday Movie Picks series hosted by Wandering through the Shelves! I was on a year-long hiatus from this series last year, but I return as immediately as 2017 begins. Should anyone be interested in joining in, feel free to visit the main page here, where the schedule and rules are. The theme for the first week of 2017 is: Legal Thrillers. I am not a fan of such kind of films, seriously; it often contains most sophisticated dialogues and specific terms that always got me cringed. My personal repertoire for legal thriller films is limited, but there are some wild aces that I personally like. (more…)

Thursday Movie Picks #50: Movies Set in a Hotel

Welcome back to Thursday Movie Picks hosted by Wandering through the Shelves! This Thursday theme is very personal to me since I work as a hotelier (in the office, though). It's all about 'Movies set in a Hotel.' You might think of a holiday trip or a business trip if talking about hotels. Yet, never forget the hotelier to make the stay really happen. See? This week's theme is full of biases. To accommodate what I've been saying before, here I present you my picks. (more…)
