The Garden of Words / 言の葉の庭 / Kotonoha no Niwa (2013)

Clocking in at 46 minutes, The Garden of Words briefly wraps up all Makoto Shinkai's earmarks, with gorgeous Malickian pictures and a heart-wrenching story told mostly in monologues. As proof of his natural approach (shown in the visual elements and the lack of fantasy taste), this movie has been my second favorite feature of Shinkai's masterpiece (after 5 Centimeters per Second). Baca review ini dalam Bahasa Indonesia: klik di sini! The story revolves around, Takao (voiced by Miyu Irino), a 15-year-old boy, who dreams of being a shoemaker. On rainy days, he likes to skip classes and goes to a garden to practice making real shoes. There, he meets a much older woman, Yukino (Kana Hanazawa), who he finds very mysterious by a chance. Every rainy day, both of them meet in that gard...

Short Term 12 (2013)

Short Term 12 is simply: the winner of  the Grand Jury Narrative Feature Award and the Narrative Audience Award in SXSW 2013, an adaptation of the original 2008 short of the same name written by Destin Daniel Cretton, and a great movie I missed in 2013. More... inside!

Dallas Buyers Club (2013)

Well, Dallas Buyers Club has been on festival and award pitch for a long time. Yet, I have just got a chance to watch it in the cinema this weekend. Just a moment before Oscar awards its two actors. Buyers Club inside, man!

The LEGO Movie (2014)

Batman, Supes, Green Lantern and WW assemble, but it's not a Justice League movie. Gandalf meets Dumbledore, but it's no wizard buddy movie. It's an animation movie  dubbed after the most commercial toy ever made... It's The LEGO Movie. Bricks of LEGO are inside.

12 Years A Slave (2013)

Steve McQueen, once again, proves himself in a blatant way--that he's a savant that goes too hard on himself. He likes to force his audiences to watch real pain of his protagonists More years of slave inside!

Mary and Max (2009)

I never thought shaun-the-sheep-ish claymation (like... animation movie employing clay and stop-motion) can bear kinds of in-depth theme, which is... deep. Well, things change when I finally watched Mary and Max, which amazingly bears a profoundly heartbreaking theme about friendship. Continue reading letters from Mary and Max here!

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)

Peter Jackson telah kembali di akhir tahun 2013 ini--masih dengan petualangan ketigabelas dwarf dan seorang hobbit dalam film tengahan yang lebih berani dan cepat dari trilogi The Hobbit karya J.R.R. Tolkien. Meskipun tak semegah dan sekelam tengahan trilogi LOTR, The Two Towers, The Desolation of Smaug tetap berhasil menunjukkan kualitasnya dalam mengeskalasi keseluruhan kisah The Hobbit dengan caranya sendiri. Prisoners (2013)

Well, there's more. Click here!

Captain Phillips (2013)

Well, there's more. Click here!

The Damned United (2009) – Review

Sebuah biopik bercita rasa komedi tentang seorang manajer Inggris terhebat yang tidak pernah menjadi pelatih timnas Inggris (berdasarkan biografi berjudul The Damned Utd. tulisan David Peace, dan disutradari Tom Hooper) menampilkan acting brilian Michael Sheen dalam memerankan the real special one, Brian Clough. Well, there's more. Click here!

Point of Steel for ‘MAN OF STEEL’ (2013)

Akhirnya saya mendapatkan cara paling 'delighting' dalam me-review the so-called Supes, dalam film pertamanya yang tidak memakai judul 'Superman', yaitu Man of Steel. Cara itu adalah dengan menuliskan 10 poin. Kenapa 10? Simply familiar aja. Well, let's shoot! (more…)
